Steve Chou Review: Profitable Online Store: 14+ Facts (eCommerce Strategy)

February 12, 2022

create a profitable online store course

Are you considering taking the Create a Profitable Online Store course?

If so, you’re here to find out exactly what it is…

...and if it’s worth your time and effort.

In this article you will also learn the price of this course, everything you get for that price, the time commitment necessary, and more.

eCommerce has made a lot of people money...

...but there are a few glaring issues with it.

For instance, ad costs are skyrocketing, and will take away from your profit.

But, we'll look at that more in this article, too.

Wondering if this is my #1 recommendation for making money online?

You'll find out.

Let’s get started.

Wondering What This Course Teaches Exactly?

Wondering What This Course Teaches Exactly? I Was Too...

This course teaches you how to create a profitable online store.

But, creating a profitable online store can be done in many ways.

It’s best to choose just one way, and focus your time and energy into that business model.

Actually, in this course, you will be taught to sell your OWN product online (like Amazon private label)...

rather than other brands’ products (wholesaling)... a few different ways.

You can also use this course to learn about dropshipping.

In other words, you will learn multiple eCommerce strategies.

(Some may say too many strategies.)

Here's a more technical definition.

What IS eCommerce, Anyways?

Investopedia defines eCommerce this way:
The Create a Profitable Online Store course teaches YOU how to buy and sell goods over the Internet.

This biz model “disrupts” the way that industries and businesses traditionally operate.

And with this course, you will learn how to get a slice of that pie.

You will also be taught a myriad of other funnels as well as useful additions, like:

business models

You will also learn how to find what products to sell...

...and how to participate in dropshipping, if you want to.

You’ll also be taught how to market your product in a variety of ways:

market your product

Basically, you’ll be given every piece of the puzzle along the creator’s business model:

how to start ecommerce

To sum up, this course covers a lot of information.

And, I’ll share a useful list of all of its main topics in just a few scrolls.

But here’s the big question:

Is eCommerce really how you want to make money online?

Let’s look at 6 great things that come from an eCommerce business model…

And 3 downsides to making money online in this way.

There’s 6 GREAT Things About eCommerce...

There are 6 GREAT Things About eCommerce...

I’ve done my fair share of eCommerce business.

In fact, here’s a breakdown of one of my best months as an Amazon seller:

And truly, there are 6 things I really liked:

  • Starting an eCommerce business can cost much less than some other businesses.
  • It’s also easy to set up.
  • No business experience is necessary (though it does help.)
  • Your store will never close, unlike a brick-and-mortar store.
  • Your product can potentially reach a global audience (though there are downsides to this in my next section.)
  • Stores have employees- but eCommerce stores have less. This can maximize profit, since you won’t have to pay as many hourly workers.
However, even with this great stuff, I found that I had quickly burnt out from my eCommerce escapades.

Thankfully, a few years prior in 2014, I had started another business that involved local lead generation.

(More on that later- and you’ll want to hear exactly what it is.)

For now, I want to make sure you know the 3 downsides to eCommerce, too.

BUT- There’s 3 Downsides You Need to Know Before Trying It On Your Own

BUT- There are 3 Downsides You Need to Know Before Trying It On Your Own

As I mentioned, I’ve left the eCommerce world.

There were 3 big issues that contributed to that decision.

First, the golden age is over.

eCommerce, and its many versions, had its time.

During this time, a lot of people found success.

But, now, the market is too saturated.

And now, that global market I mentioned earlier is TOO big.

It’s much too difficult to raise your own little product above a worldwide audience of competition.

And even though numbers like these may make you feel like it will be easy to find some buyers:

Retail eCommerce sales worldwide via Statista

It makes me feel like there’s no way that I’d spend my time grinding to stand out above the fray.

Also, advertisement costs continue to rise,

especially Facebook ads.

This takes away from the profit you’ll put in your pocket.

And by the way…

In today’s market…

Your store needs to be making at least 6 figures to actually find success.

All of that is only possible after putting in hours of your valuable time and energy.

That sounds like putting all of my eggs in one basket.

Which is something that Steve Chou has not done with his eCommerce business.

Steve Chou is the owner and presenter of the Create a Profitable Online Store course.

So, if you do decide to purchase, you’ll be spending a lot of time with him.

How does Steve Chou make money, if not only from eCommerce?

I was shocked when I found out.

Let’s take a look.

Hey, I'm Ippei!

Until 2014, like many of the people I review, I was working in a corporate job from 9 to 5. I can't imagine keeping that job, now that I know about lead generation.

Not only was this job soul-crushing, but it didn't give me any time to pursue my bigger goals.

That was until I discovered a method to rank sites organically, generating free leads for my clients.

I created this website in 2015, and since then I haven't had to touch or update it.

And since then...

It has gained me a passive income of $2000 a month.

That's more than $100,000 for one site, in 5 years.

That's the magic of the Lead Generation business, it's by far the best model to generate passive income. If you want to know more, just hop over here!

I Assumed Steve Chou Makes All His Cash with eCommerce

I Assumed Steve Chou Makes All His Cash with eCommerce… But I was Way Off…

Steve Chou is very successful and has been featured in many reputable publications:

But, he doesn’t just make money running his own shop.

And, he doesn’t just make money from selling on Amazon.

In addition, he runs a blog and a podcast, and runs a store for his kids.

He also runs annual eCommerce conference.

He does all this, along with many other streams of income.

Here’s where I was shocked.

Steve Chou Still Has His Day Job

Steve has an electrical engineering degree from Stanford University.

And so, he still holds his 9-5 in a job that allows him to use this degree.

Here’s the why, which he shared during a podcast.

(Can you catch the troubling part?)

podcast interview

First off, it’s great that Steve likes his 9-5 enough that he hasn’t left it.

It’s also great that he is able to use his degree, as many people these days are not able to, or find little joy in it.

But- if eCommerce is the way to go…

Why have so many backups?

Why worry about becoming obsolete?

Steve must be aware of those downsides I shared before.

If a business model is in that much danger of falling off the wagon…

...why spend your time on it?

This is one of the big reasons that I recommend local lead generation as a business model.

Local lead generation will always be in demand.

There will always be small businesses to help.

More on this later.

Let’s look at the price of this Create a Profitable Online Store Course.

Here’s the Cost (and Payment Options) of the Create a Profitable Online Store Course

Here’s the Cost (and Payment Options) of the Create a Profitable Online Store Course

Seems pretty hefty.

Wondering what you get for that cost?

Here’s my take on who should take the Create a Profitable Online Store course…

...and who shouldn’t.

Take this Course if You...

Take This Course if You...

Honestly, this course is great for all levels of eCommerce… long as you are willing to dedicate the time and patience.

If you are a beginner, Steve will help you get started:

if you are a beginner

If you want to get started doing Amazon FBA, or you want to improve your practice, Steve can also assist:

If you want to get started doing Amazon FBA, or you want to improve your practice, Steve can also assist:

Even if you already have a profitable online store, Steve can help you through this course in this way:

if you already have a store

To sum up:

Those who are dedicated to the idea of eCommerce as a way to make money online will benefit from this course.

However, many people will not.

Do NOT Take this Course if You...

Do NOT Take this Course if You...

There are three big reasons to NOT take this course.

The Create a Profitable Online Store course is pricey. If you cannot afford it, or you are not currently set up to apply it as a business investment, look for another course.

You will need to dedicate at least 5 hours a week to this course. Do not take it if you have other commitments that would take away that time.

And consider… even while dedicating 5 hours a week…

How long will it take you to get through 300+ videos AND apply the knowledge within?

If each video is 5 minutes long…

That’s over 25 hours of content.

That’s 5 weeks just to get near the end of the videos.

That’s without adding the hands-on time of setting up, marketing, and actually doing eCommerce.

I’m guessing you want to get closer to making money much sooner than that.

Don’t purchase this course if you aren’t sure about eCommerce.

There are many other first steps you can try before making such a large investment of your time and money.

Before purchase, research eCommerce on Youtube.

In fact, here’s a really great starting point.

You can also research other business models, that may work better for your lifestyle.

For example, with lead generation, you won’t need to put as much time in once your site is ranked.

I haven’t spent any time working on my top-ranked sites…

...and they rake in over $1200/month each.

Really, the point I’m trying to get to is:

eCommerce may not be the right thing for you.

Make sure it is what you want to do, before making a large investment.

How Much Time Should You Commit to This Course?

How Much Time Should You Commit to This Course?

I’ve mentioned the time commitment of the Create a Profitable online Store course, but I want to dig a little deeper.

While Steve says 5 hours a week will get you where you need to go…

I want to show you exactly how much is in this course right now.

Create a Profitable Online Store Course Modules

As you can see, there’s a lot going on.

And, there’s something for anyone hoping to join the eCommerce world.

Let’s tie all of this information together.

Here’s the Bottom Line

Here’s the Bottom Line.

This course is literally a wealth of information.

Due to that, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing it if you are at the beginning of your online business journey.

However, if you know that you want to do eCommerce as a way of making money online, it’s a great course to purchase.

Steve will teach you basically anything about creating a profitable online store, and all of his information is up to date.

And, I have to share two very important things Steve teaches before moving on.

Here they are.

Two Interesting Things This Course Teaches is…

Two Interesting Things This Course Teaches is…

Before you begin your online store, you need to decide which product you will sell.

Many eCommerce platforms find Chinese products and sell them either wholesale or via private label.

However, Steve encourages you not to shy away from American made products.

In fact, he will help you find your niche:

help find niche

And then help you find a wholesaler to help you source your products.

product sourcing

Steve also doesn’t swear by the Amazon FBA biz model.

In fact, he encourages his students to sell from their own websites.

Some of his students sell American made products from their own sites, and have had great success.

Will YOU be just as successful doing this?

Let’s break down some results.

Let’s Talk Results- When Will You Make Your First $100k?

Let’s Talk Results- When Will You Make Your First $100k?

Steve surveyed his members, and graphed out the results for us.

Here is one chart, based on members that have been applying his tactics for at least a year:

how much revenue do my students generate monthly

He also shares the percentage of sales that come from Amazon…

from amazon sales

This graph is presented in a confusing way, so let me explain:

59% of his students make less than 10% of their revenue on Amazon.

27.4% of his students make over 75% of their revenue on Amazon.

So, the greatest majority of students do not make Amazon their main income source.

But, the next greatest majority… does.

So, you can really take this course in whatever direction you want.

Which can be a great thing for some,

And a not so great thing for others.

If you do purchase, and decide it’s not for you…

Is there a refund?

Let’s find out!

A Refund is Available!

A Refund is Available!

The Create a Profitable Online Store course does offer a refund.

This refund is a 30 day money back guarantee.

Honestly, this is a great refund policy.

And, it only has a few exceptions.

First, if you signed up for the class before and got a refund, you can’t do this a second time.

Also, your refund request may be turned down.

This can happen if:

  •  you have already downloaded everything in the course and plan to keep the materials without paying for them.
  • you chose the monthly payment option, and don’t submit your refund request before your first 30 days are up.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you do pursue a refund after getting into Steve’s material.

After all, eCommerce just isn’t where you want to be these days.

I don’t have to go over it again- but eCommerce just isn’t my choice of business for many reasons.

However, lead generation IS my #1 recommendation for making money online.

Here’s why.

Lead Generation is my #1 Recommendation for Passive Income

Lead Generation is my #1 Recommendation for Passive Income

I love the local lead generation business for many reasons, and I’d love to break down four big factors to this decision.

1. Passive Income

My biggest reason?

This business model generates passive income.

With local lead generation, all you need to do is:

  • Build a simple site
  • Rank that site
  • Give leads to local businesses
  • Bring in the money

I have many of these online “billboard” sites, that I haven’t touched in years.

Each of these bring in hundreds to thousands of dollars each month.

That’s how I’ve scaled my monthly income to over $52K per month.

Here’s the next factor.

2. Local Markets

Unlike eCommerce, where you are fighting against a global market, lead generation deals with local markets.

By choosing small, local niches focused around a single zip code, we eliminate the competition.

And, at the same time, we help small businesses get the customers they need to thrive.

That gets me to the third thing I love about local lead gen.

3. Leads are ALWAYS in Demand

Unlike a product that is popular today and boring tomorrow…

Small businesses will always need leads.

So, you won’t have to worry about becoming obsolete.

In fact, even if you find another lead generation student in the zip code you are focused on-

-you can still do business in that area.

All you need to do is find a different niche than the one already covered.

Super simple.

4. Ad Cost

A big thing driving the decline of eCommerce is ad cost.

Facebook ads especially are becoming more and more expensive.

However, with lead generation, we rank sites to the front page of Google.

This brings organic traffic in, with little to no ad cost.

To put it another way-

People who need services like roofing, plumbers, tree removal, and limousines will naturally search for these services in their local area.

And when they do, they see our site as the top recommendation by Google.

Talk about low cost advertising.

Here’s even more about lead generation:

lead generation

To wrap up this Create a Profitable Online Store Course review, I want to end on this note:

eCommerce had its heyday, and those days are long gone for most of us.

If you are already in this sphere, Steve’s course is a great way to stay up-to-date on the latest practices.

But, if you are not in eCommerce, consider lead generation.

Local lead generation will always be in demand.

And it will generate income without you having to lift a finger.

It’s what I do, and it’s changed my life.

Want to learn how?

I’d be happy to help.
