Here’s Your Complete Guide to Getting a Business License in the 2nd Decade of the 21st Century
Below is a basic walk-through of how to get your biz papers all up and ready so you can get going with revenue generating activities.
What I’ve put together is the result of a bunch of research
(actually a lot of Googling, but same thing these days, right?)
With this comprehensive map covering every single state in the United States (even Alaska and Hawaii), your search for how to get a business in this new decade will be expedited like Amazon’s 1-day shipping.
I wrote this guide to help future company owners, entrepreneurs and professionals find the resources they need to get their enterprises set up within their states.
Now, I’ll want to warn you, even though the general steps to getting a biz license are similar,
you’ll have to pay special attention to the process for your chosen state,
because every region’s different like each flavor in your local ice cream shop
(it’s all frozen dairy, but each is made a little different than the next).
Pay particular attention to the different levels of each, some have merely state-wide requirements, others have both local and state-wide, some have regional, and still others have a combination of all 3.
In every state of the union, you'll need to file for an EIN number, which stands for "employer identification number."
I know we all think that taxes are a rip off, but to stay kosher with the Internal Revenue Service, you'll need to go to their website and apply for your business tax id number.
The button below will take you directly to their website, where you can get your EIN for free.
Here's the state-specific forms from A to Z, with resources to open a corporate entity in the US Territories below it.
