This a complete video by video review of Module 3, Shopify Store Optimization. This module covers the basics about setting up your Shopify Store the correct way.


Module 3 - Shopify Store Optimization

Video 01 - THE BEST SHOPIFY THEME AND WHY YOU NEED TO USE IT FOR MOBILE OPTIMIZATION

Unlike other courses that start with setting up your store, Kevin suggests doing your product research and getting suppliers first. It's an interesting tactic when compared to the other courses.

Kevin gives some good hints again. He takes you through the initial Shopify setup process and then suggests certain themes that can be used, based on the number of products you have. This is a great tip. 

Video 02 - THE BEST SHOPIFY SETTINGS AND WHY USING THEM WILL SAVE YOU 100'S OF HOURS OF PAIN

Kevin starts off by offering you 21 free days (it's usually 14) to use Shopify and then shows you how to get a further 10% discount per month for the first year.

Kevin then dives into the more advanced Shopify Settings, which includes Payment Setup, Shipping, and your Refund, Privacy and Terms of Service statements. 

Setting up your Shipping is an integral part of dropshipping and Kevin does a good job at showing you how to set it up optimally. 

Oh, and once again Kevin has included a soft copy of the module's content for you to refer to.

Video 03 - HOW TO SET UP YOUR CUSTOM DOMAIN NAME THE RIGHT WAY

Kevin takes you through the steps of buying a domain name via Shopify. It's pretty straight forward and easy to do. 

Kevin then shows you how to setup G Suite for you business email and includes a very important step that some of the other courses don't cover:
- Verifying your domain name with Google by adding a meta tag to your homepage. 
- You simply cut and paste a small line of code. 
It's a simple process if you follow Kevin's example.

Kevin then shows how to setup up your MX Records (but doesn't tell you why you have to do it...) for your DNS Zone.

Lastly, he shows you how to set up email forwarding via G Suite.

Video 04 - HOW TO IMPORT PRODUCTS FROM ALIEXPRESS + MAKE COLLECTIONS + MENUS + CONTACT US PAGE

Kevin shows you how ridiculously easy it it to import products via Oberlo to your Shopify Store. 

Once you have products on your store, you can start putting the ones that are related in Collections. Kevin shows you exactly how to do this.

Kevin also shows you where to get royalty-free images that you can use on your site, and then how to use them to create a banner on your home page.
He then shows you how to set up the rest of your homepage sections, which includes:
  • Rich Text box
  • Collection Lists
  • Email opt-in
  • Announcement bar
  • Menu setup
  • Logo and favicon
  • Social media links
  • Checkout
  • Creating and adding additional Collections such as New Arrivals, Best Sellers etc.
  • Contact us
Kevin then shows you how to contact Shopify Support if you have any questions about the theme.

Video 05 - HOW TO SET UP YOUR PRODUCT TITLES AND LISTING DESCRIPTIONS THE RIGHT WAY (TO CONVERT TO SALES)

As the title suggests, Kevin shows you how to add your product titles and listing descriptions. 

It's great that Oberlo does this for you, but Kevin suggests you change it because the descriptions are very keyword orientated and optimized for searches, rather than conversions.

The above Product Title should be changed to something that describes the product and entices someone to buy.

For example: "Golf Hat Clip (18g) for alignment and aiming. (It really works!)

Video 06 - HOW TO SET UP MAILCHIMP AND YOUR ABANDONED CART SEQUENCE (MAILCHIMP)

Kevin tells you why he uses Mailchimp and shows you how to set it up in order to re-target people who have not gone through with a sale and left a product in their cart. (It happens more often than you think...)
Most importantly, Kevin shows you what should be added in your re-targeting emails and when to send them.

Kevin also shows you how to set up an email that gets sent to people subscribing to your "Best Seller Notification List".  

Video 07 - HOW TO SET UP REVIEWS FOR YOUR PRODUCTS TO INCREASE CONVERSIONS

Kevin uses a free Shopify App to set up reviews for your store. Once again there is a bit of code to copy and paste, but Kevin shows you how to do it easily enough.

Kevin shows you how to quickly add reviews to your products for some social proof.

Video 08 - HOW TO SET UP AUTOMATED COUPON DISTRIBUTION WITH PRODUCT RECEIPTS

Kevin suggests an app that gives you 30 days free access to all its features. Thereafter, there is a monthly subscription fee, but Kevin claims it is well worth it and leads to a lot of conversions. 

Kevin shows you exactly how to set up your discount coupons and how to use them.

Video 09 - HOW TO ADD A POP UP THAT GETS YOUR MORE CUSTOMER EMAIL ADDRESSES

Kevin suggests a cheaper alternative to the most widely used pop-up app. 

You're then shown how to set up a quick "Prizes" pop-up campaign.

Video 10 - HOW TO ADD A COUNTDOWN TIMER TO YOUR PRODUCT LISTINGS AND INCREASE CONVERSIONS THROUGH SCARCITY

In this quick video, Kevin adds another app to your Shopify arsenal. With this app, you create a sense of urgency as a specified event (such as a discount) will end in a certain time. 

Kevin shows you how to optimally set it up. 

Video 11 - HOW TO ADD PRODUCT UPSELLS TO INCREASE AVERAGE CART SIZE AND YOUR STORES PROFITABILITY

Kevin shows you his preferred (paid) app that adds up-sell items just before a buyer checks out.

An up-sell is a complimentary product to the original product that a customer wanted to buy. Examples are golf being offered at a reduced price when buying  agolf club, or an SD card with a digital camera.  

Kevin walks you through the process of setting it up.

Video 12 - HOW A PRINT ON DEMAND SHOPIFY APP ADDED AN ADDITIONAL 10K PER MONTH IN REVENUE FOR MY STORE

This is a short introduction video to another app that can add value to your Shopify store. The app allows you to advertise (Print On Demand - so no stock) shirts on your site with any imaginable design. Kevin will go into more detail about this in the Bonus section, specifically video 2. 

Video 13 - HOW TO NAVIGATE YOUR THEME LIKE A PRO AND OPTIMIZE YOUR STORES FEEL FOR HIGHER SALES

Kevin offers some tips on how to optimize your theme and setting everything up in order for you to navigate your site easily. 

Video 14 - HOW TO AUTOMATICALLY FULFILL YOUR ORDERS THE RIGHT WAY

Processing orders is a big part of your drop shipping operation. It's a lot less hassle than physically shipping products, but you still need to place every order you receive with your supplier in China. 

That's why automation is so important. Imagine manually placing a hundred orders a day. What happens when you have a thousand?

Kevin shows you how to use Oberlo to cut down the ordering process by a couple of steps.

The ideal method though, is bulk dropshipping. Where you bulk export all your orders once a day to your supplier.   

Video 15 - HOW TO SET UP GOOGLE ANALYTICS TO MAKE DATA DRIVEN STORE OPTIMIZATIONS IN THE FUTURE

In this very short video, Kevin shows you how to set up Google Analytics for your Shopify Store.
This module consisted of 15 videos with a total length of 2 hours and 41 minutes and additional document resources.

Module 03 - My Key Takeaways 

Nothing really popped out in this module. Kevin pretty much suggests the industry standard apps and Shopify settings. A Google search will pretty much give you the same information.


The exception is the last video, where Kevin shows you how to use Google Analytics to gather even more marketing data. It's a good tip that is not found in most other courses I've reviewed.

Content: 7/10 Content is not as comprehensive as most of the other courses, but at least covers the basics.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF MODULE 03

The pace is frenetic! Kevin rushes through things and will most certainly leave most beginners behind. Luckily, he does supply those ever handy course module notes which you can refer to again if needed.

The content is a bit lacking again. In the previous modules, Kevin shared many unique tips. This module not so much, and is pretty much the standard fare you can expect from a Shopify Setup Section of a course. 

Other courses though, go into much more detail ...
